Description
Join us for the October edition of Roots Music Stomp featuring Oliver Strand.
Oliver Strand, multi-instrumentalist, writer, mountain banjo builder, maker of handmade Windsor chairs, and teacher of sculpture at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Oliver is particularly known for his deep dives into pre- Bluegrass banjo styles, both clawhammer and the great variety of two-and three-finger picking styles- jug band, rags, blues, and late-19th century popular music- that flourished in the decades before Earl Scruggs’ Bluegrass picking style emerged.
ABOUT ROOTS MUSIC STOMP & CRAIG EDWARDS
Roots Music Stomp is a monthly series of performances hosted by Craig Edwards, who has been called “A walking encyclopedia of American Roots Music.” Craig sings and plays Appalachian Old Time, Blues, Bluegrass, Cajun, Celtic, Chanteys, Folk, Roots Rock, Swing, Zydeco, and more on fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, and button accordion. Each month guest musicians who are experts in one or more of these musical traditions will collaborate with Craig as we explore the rich tapestry of traditional social music that underpins America’s vibrant musical culture.
