BASIC DRAWING AND PASTEL TECHNIQUES

Thursday, October 22, 2026 (10:00 AM - 12:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

Laura LoTurco-Gorian

Drawing is the foundation of all fine art, and pastel is one of the most versatile and vibrant drawing mediums available. In this course, students will develop essential drawing skills while exploring the expressive possibilities of pastel. Through exercises, demonstrations, and guided practice, the class will focus on the key elements of composition, value, form, perspective, and observation, the building blocks of strong artwork.

Using the rich, pure pigments of pastel, students will learn a variety of mark-making techniques, pastel painting fundamentals, and methods for creating texture, depth, and luminous color. These skills will provide students with the tools to create satisfying and confident works of art.

Designed for beginners, as well as anyone interested in exploring a medium with so many creative possibilities, this class provides a supportive environment for learning, experimentation, and creative expression. No prior art training is necessary.
